It's every golfer's dream to have a house off the side of his favorite fairway. Both Ernie Els and Bruce Forsyth live near the 16th fairway of the West Course at Wentworth. The good news is that you don't need to be a millionaire golfer or a celebrity TV presenter to call the golf course your home. In Portugal, you can prices ranges from £60 per night at the low end to over £300 for a house that would make Bill Gates envious.
If you are in a large group then the cost can be split and you can stay at a plush mansion for the price of a night at a travel lodge. If you want to fill up a large villa but you are online, you should have no problem filling up the spare bedrooms - many of the larger houses have space to entertain guests at the pool or the barbecue areas.
Now you might not be able to afford the villa all year round but perhaps you can share with a couple of neighbors or with other members at your local golf club. Failing that, you can always test drive by renting the villa for a few days to a week before you sign on the dotted line to make a purchase.
The other big factor, apart from how many members are in your group, is how long you want to stay for. Many villas you will see advertised online have a "minimum stay policy" that can range anywhere from 3 nights to 30 days.
Pick a villa near a golf course that you really enjoy and that you won't get bored playing often. Trust me, you will be playing your home course a lot so you should love it as much as Ernie Els loves Wentworth.
Make sure you read the rules and requirements very carefully as many villa owners or agencies specify no pets or having access to a car is necessary because of the location.
