Mastering The Short Putt: Top 5 Amateurs' Mistakes

It is not very easy to master the short putt. This is something that at least a lot of amateur players have come to learn the hard way. It is one of the most important things that you will need to think about when you are planning on how to learn to putt. There are some mistakes that are so common to amateur golfers, and you need to try and make sure that you do not make them.

One of the first things that you will learn about golf mistakes is that the easiest way to overcome them is to figure out where the mistake is, and then from there you can find out what to do next. With that in mind, the following are 5 of the most common mistakes that amateur players make from time to time. Hopefully you will not make the same mistakes too:

  • Lack of confidence
  • No ritual
  • Focus on outcomes
  • Being too handsy
  • Choking the putter

Lack of confidence

Lack of confidence is something that has hurt the games of so many players, and not just amateur players. When you get on to the green, it is important for you to make sure that you have a good idea what you want to do and how to go about it. Even if you know you are not so good, there is nothing wrong with giving it your best shot.

No ritual

It is a terrible mistake not to have a putting ritual. This basically means that you will not have any preferred style of play. Every player has their own putting ritual, so try and come up with something that will work for you.

Focus on outcomes

Most of the beginner players normally put a lot of emphasis on the outcomes of their putts other than the procedure and the technique. Being fixated on outcomes is something that will not get you the results that you are after.

Being too handsy

Do not use too much of your hands to get you what you want. The putt is supposed to be smooth, but beginner players normally mess up with the free swing pendulum.

Choking the putter

Do not hold on to the putter so tightly. This is one of the worst mistakes that we see lots of beginner players make from time to time. You should have a firm grip, but not too tight you end up choking your putter.
